Cutting exhaust
Cutting exhaust
Hey, I guess this will be my first post on cz28.com. So far the information has been very informative as I am a new z owner of 4 weeks. I sucessfully stoppoed my huge freaking oil leak. It turned out to be opti and water pump o rings or lack of. Anyways
I am in college right now, I have a 95 z28 which is stock other then magnaflow muffler, and a hardwood 2.5" cowl. I want to make it a little louder.
Would it be too loud if I cut the exhaust off just before the rear axle and put a turndown in. I drive it around town and a little on the highway. I figure if its too loud I could install a bullet muffler inline or something... Also would it affect power neg or positivley? If anyone has any suggestions as too what it would sound like or any sound clips that would be awesome.
Thanks very much

I would just install a cutout right before the axle dump, it is essentially the same thing but instead you can keep the Magnaflow on the car. Not too mention a cutout only costs 30 bucks and you can open and close it whenever you please.
Well, the i-pipe runs from the end of your y-pipe, over the rear axle, to the muffler itself, so by installing it near the rear axle, you are also installing it in the i-pipe as well. Its the same thing basically.
It should sound pretty good without the muffler installed.
On the day I fitted my cat-back I ran the car for a few miles with no exhaust at all, blowing straight out of the cat, sounded mean
.
Yeah, just unbolt the muffler and take the car for a run to see what you think. I did, and heres my clips:

I got a bit tired of the noise after a year or so and went and installed a proper catback, I'm still considering a cutout though.

I was in your situation a few weeks ago. I finally decided to get a cutout. (personally i think you should get a jeg's), After a lot of thought i decided to get it installed just before the cat. I'm glad i did because i got what i was looking for: an awesome sound with the ability to make it legal within minutes. It will be loud ( I have passed at least 5 cops with the cutout open) I just let off the throttle as i pass them and its just fine

thanks for the tip, i ended up taking the muffler and tailpipes off to see how I like it for a few days...I like it so far I just cant decide if its 100% what I like. Kinda like a mix between a loudmouth 2 and an old farm truck haha. I like loud so I am thinkin about bringing it to an exaust shop and having them fab up duals from the axle back and possibly putting a loudmouth muffler in the i pipe. Would that get rid of the farm truck sound for now...I am avoiding the cutout for now as I plan on getting long tubes and offroad y in the near future...just dont know when
