Cutout Worth It?

Hey guys. Ive been debating on getting an electric exhaust cutout for my 95 Z. I have read a lot of info on various sites, and arguments on which is better QTP or Race Ready. My question is do they offer (if any) horsepower gains or have any benefit, beside scaring away ricers? Who better to ask them Camaro owners themselves?

Also I know its a little early to be thinking about winter, but what advice can you give to make the car "driveable" during the snowfall? Im getting ahead of myself but need to start preparing. If I wasnt paying for college I would definitley buy a beater, but thats out of the question. So I unfortunatley have to drive through the winter I know snow tires are a must, what size is "recommended"? Would a 235/60/16 work on a factory rim with no problems? Also if weight over the rear axel beneficial? Thanks for your input.

I would imagine that the gains would be fairly decent with a cutout but since they are not legal here in PA I don't know for sure. As for what brand to go with. I met Barry at QTP and he is a very stand up guy. My son bought the hood from his LS1 SS. For snow I would get some good snow tires and yes add some weight in the rear. Maybe a few bags of sand to also use when you get stuck. Find some old salad shooters to mount them on or steel wheels. We keep a set in the garage and we don't even drive our cars in the snow. But better safe than sorry. Just in case our daily driver breaks.

I did notice 10 rwhp over a performance exhaust system... given my exhaust was flowing quite a bit when I tested them back to back

As far as gains go, i think you lose quite a bit down low and gain a little up top depending on your exhaust setup.

Stock motor, idle sounds ok (would sound much better with a lopey cam). But WOT sounds awesome and makes it worth every penny.

My sixty foot times are no different with it open or closed but with it open I gain one mile an hour on top end.

Think people do it more for the "cool" factor. If you have a very poor flowing exhaust that you like / can't afford to upgrade, it's a viable option.

My SLP 2OTL flows and sounds great so I have no need for one. I may pick up half a mile an hour, but my car isn't a dedicated drag car.

Welcome to the forum BTW, I see your relatively new.

I run a single 3 1/2" QTP with a 383 D1 Procharger. It really helps the performance with the increased flow in the open mode.

Re: Cutout Worth It?

I gained 9rwhp with mine open. It is obnoxious for everyday driving, but worth it for the track for sure.
