Catalytic Converter Question
Catalytic Converter Question
I currently don't have one on my car, and the exhaust smells so bad that you stink after driving the car or letting it idle for awhile. If I put one back on my car, will it help? I can put it behind the cutout, so I could bypass it if I needed to. The car is running rich, but I thought this might help as well as a new tune, once I can figure this datalog thing out.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
CAT probably won't do much for running rich but +1 on the exhaust smell. Took mine off when I added the LT's and it now smells like a vintage 1970 or lawn mower was running in the garage whenever I crank it up. Seriously thinking of putting a CAT back on, my car is looks to good to stink like that for a few HP.
Rich condition? The hydrocarbons will burn up in the cat and fix the smell issue. But the richer the AFR, the faster the cat will burn up.
When I removed my cat after it clogged (from a rich condition), I noticed the fumes are bad enough to about kill you if you're by the tailpipe.

I am experiencing the same thing, both smell and running rich. I plan to add a high flow cat in front of the cutout and after the Y-pipe. Just need to decide which cat to get (have about 12-14 inches of Y-pipe tail where I plan to have the cat). Any suggestions??
Thanks!
