Which cat for longtubes?
What is the best quality, cheapest cat converter to go with? Where'd you get it from? I will be going with Pacesetter longtubes and Y pipe. Where did you mount the cat on your longtube/y pipe setup?
dont even purchase the y-pipe , have the cats welded up after the slip fit collectors and then have the rest of the pipe made
do a search there are quite a few pics up on here
as far as cats , im not sure i know of random tech cats but there are other choices thay i cant think of

I have both the Pacesetter long tubes and off-road y-pipe. I bought a pair of Pypes 3" mini-cats and they were small enough to work. The passenger side isn't a problem whatsoever, you could even use a full size cat there if you wanted to. The drivers side is a nightmare however, you have fuel/brake lines in the way as well as the torque arm. The mini-cat was just able to wedge in there. I paid 130 shipped directly from Pypes. I cannot remember the part number off hand, if you do a search, you may be able to find it from a previous post.
What is a catless convertor, and did you notice he is from Califonia.
I think only Random Technology makes a perfomance smog legal cat that passes Cali emission. I am not 100% on that but it seems I read it some place not long ago.
Not sure if Cali law permits electronic cutouts, but you could run one of those when you want performance, and then some cheapy cats from your local muffler shop to be legal. Just an idea.

Thanks fellas. Well, I've pretty much have thrown smog compliance out the window with my setup despite being here in CA. What about this cat from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LS1-L...spagenameZWD1V They seem small enough to tuck up well underneath our lt1's and are pretty cheap. Anyone here ever use this?
I'd primarily be doing it for sound, smell, and just in case the cops try to take a peek underneath the car. I wouldn't mind the pypes or the magnaflow's, they look really good, but I'll just end up waiting to save up money for those. For now, I'll stick to the ORY and see how it goes. I just want to start her up.
I went with a pair of Pypes minicats, they fit right in the off-road y-pipe. The passenger side is cake, you could fit just about any size cat on there. The drivers side is a pain though with the torque arm and fuel lines in the way. That is where the mini-cat is truly needed.
pacesetters are cheap. the newer ones ive not heard anyone complain. My buddies drop them in without any type of problems whatesoever. One said that they slid themselves in. Although they arent equal length the "revised" quality and power for the price is unmatched.
if u were serious in considering the SLP id go with Kooks. I haven checked up on SLPs prices lately but a set of Kooks stainless steel equal length headers are just about the same price. But if u want the catted option (think SLP only does that for LS1s) be prepared to spend another 5-600 for the Kooks catted y-pipe.
I have Pacesetting LTs that are coated. The #1 thing they kill is the O2 sensor when you first use them. But once they are run for a while, I assume the excess coating is burned off and the new o2s run without a problem. You will need some O2 extensions as well.
I have Pacesetter longtubes with a Pacesetter Y pipe. I used a magnaflow 3" full size cat on the passenger side and I used a Pypes minicat on the driver side. It fits very nicely and does not hang any lower than the longtubes themselves. You need to fabricate a heat shield on the drivers side to prevent excessive heat on the torque arm bushing and transmission mount bushing.
