Cat Converter

Hello,

I currently run a random technology cat on my car with the mods below. I was wodering if you think there is anything to gain removing it and installing an off-road pipe in its place. I can always reinstall the cat before emissions testing.

Also, would it make my 2OTL exhaust louder? I wouldnt mind it being a little louder.

Anubody have a sound clip of the 2OTL without a cat?

Thanks!

It couldn't hurt to install the off-road pipe as I think it will gain a little power. I also think it will sound better also.

I could powerbrake my tires at a noticeably lower RPM with my cat off. It will also make your exhaust louder, and you will probably notice a horrible gassy exhaust smell.

I put V-band flanges on each end of my cat, so in <5 minutes I can swap in a straight pipe for the track.

I think I am going to give it a try. Its pretty cheap to do. I have been debating going to Kooks for the last few months but I just am not sure if there will be a really noticable gain over my current set up. I dont know if I can justify spending over $1k for 10hp or so. What do you think?

If going from mids to LT's you will notice a pretty decent gain. Now is it worth the big bucks for the KOOKS probably not. I have KOOKS 1 7/8" and love them but I went from manifolds to LT's and wanted stainless. Since you already have some power with the mids you might look into coated Pacesetter LT's for the bang for the buck factor unless you want to go with stainless or maybe the 1 7/8" which Pacesetter does not offer. These are just some options for you to think about.

If I went to the long tubes you think I would need another dyno tune?

No you'll be fine, you won't have to do that at all until you do something else that requires dyno tuning.

I need to install some long tubes and ORY, but never the less, I have hooker mids, no cat, going through the TOTL.

I would be very hesitant to recommend installing a off-road pipe in place of the cat.I lost 2/10th,s off my 60ft.(due to backpressure). Now if your cat. is plugged i could see doing, but not otherwise.Your 3200 stall will help some but another set of gears might also help. Are you running 3.23?Hope this helps.
