Is a Borla an $800 cut out?

Probably one of the more heated topics on CZ28 has to be the Borla muffler. Known for having a popular sound and high quality construction, the debate never ends about whether it's a great system or a glorified cut out.

Personally I can't see the reason to run the full bypass plate all the time. And having sound only come out of the one side seems odd. And a big part of the sound is how the inside of the muffler is constructed. Bypassing that just gives a loud untuned cutout sound. Then again, how many people run the full closed plate or the 2nd most closed plate?

You may choose multiple answers.

I don't have one, but I don't think it's a glorified cutout. They tend to make nice systems...maybe not the best bang for the buck though.

apples and oranges...
Had the Borla... I would say the slp LM1 that i have is more like a glorified cutout than Borla...

Also depends on whether or not you run cats...

I love mine, I have an electric cutout installed instead of using any of the plates supplied with the system.

I usually keep it opened all the time, has a deep mellow, yet aggressive tone, and no drone inside the car. And with the flip of a switch, it becomes nice and quiet!

Same here, I also have the QTP e-cutout in place of the plates. I am very impressed with the construction of the entire cat-back as it has seen 5+ winters in the past and the entire system is in great condition. Before the QTP, I never ran anything else but the wide open plate.

I have the borla and am very happy with it, out of all the cat-backs i have had the borla is the best but i am sure if you look hard you will find a better one, you know how that goes!
I have LT, no cat, and the borla with the full plate in, anything but the full plate was so load on my car that it gave me a head-ache so i put the full plate in and it sounds great and head-aches are gone
It was just way too load with the open plates but again i dont have converters so that would probably quiet the car down quite a bit if i ran cat's.
