3000GT vs. Z28

Wanted a sporty convertible and decided to go American and get a Z28 after trying out an Eclipse and hating the lack of power. Previous car was a 3000GT with top-notch handling, so the Camaro feels a little rough in transition.'

I need to get a catalytic converter ASAP for smog -- wouldn't mind something that would smooth out the engine sound as well. other plans include changing the suspension (previous owner lowered it to the point of scraping the ground on bumps) and installing a new AC/Heater.

Looking to put about $500 a month into the car for the next three months. More worried about a smooth ride than high speed -- too much local traffic to put all that HP to use.

How much should I be looking to pay for a decent catalytic install and which ones change the engine sound -- looking for something that growls, low and deep and not too over the top.

Any info on suspension would be appreciated as well since that's my next fix.

Any converter you buy will typically smooth out the exhaust note. When you say you need it for smog, you mean for inspection I assume? And is that just visual or a true sniffer test?

If you just want a quick fix you can buy a converter off Ebay and run it for quite some time. Check into places like Summit Racing or Jegs for parts as well. I would also keep an eye in the "Classified" section of this forum since guys are almost always parting out or swapping parts in their cars.

Also- I assume you bought a 4th gen Z, but not sure what power train- LT or LS....a signature will help everyone guide you in the right direction knowing what kind of car you have.

Re: 3000GT vs. Z28

Thanks.

Found out the noise is probably just from it missing the cat. Gonna get another one installed and see if that does the trick.

So far as the powertrain goes -- think its an LT. I'll get a full review of the car and start putting it in my sig.
