Been doing a lot of searching around here for the past several days.

*EDIT* It's a daily driver. Priorities: 1) Quality 2) Clearance 3) Lack of modifications required 4) Performance

Have an exhaust leak/tick coming from somewhere in the driver's side manifold. Thinking about installing some of the new stainless LTs for LT1s being previewed over on ls1.com. I want to fix the leak, but don't think it's worth fiddling with the stock manifold, correct?

My question is two fold: 1) Worth it to put headers on a 117k mi car? 2) It's got a full suspension drop on it (pro kit, shocks, torque arms, panhard)..will LT's work?

Also, skid plates. I'd like to install them for simple peace of mind..but who makes them?

Thanks,

-John

You're going to have to ask black2002ws6 the measurements underneath the car. I recently put headers on my 95z, which is somewhere in the 150k mile range, so I think it's worth it. Others may have a different opinion. (at the same I did the LT's, I put in a new FLT tranny and T.C.)

As far as 'will they fit on your dropped SS', that's the question I mentioned that you'll have to ask black2002ws6 - then you'll have to go out and measure to check the clearance. If you're interested, I can measure the clearance for my Kooks, but they probably wont have the same clearance. The Kooks tuck WAY up there, though.

There are several people running LTs and lowering springs. You will really have to be careful of your surroundings though. My Pacesetter LTs have a little less then a soda cans distance from the pavement and those tuck up pretty well.

My 97 Z-28 with Eibach sportlines and 126k mile deCarbon shocks. (original to the car )

The first two are the driver's side header and the second one is the passenger side. I'm not sure why there's a difference in the amount of clearance, but there is.

I can actually get around town fairly well without scraping, but you *really* have to learn your limitations.

I avoid them at all costs. I only go over them if I have no other way around, and believe me, I do look for ways around.

I have Kooks on my 96 SS they are the best but not cheap my car is not lowered and I have 4in.from the Y pipe cat to the ground on the drivers side and almost 5in from thr header pipes to the ground. The passenger side no problem. Make sure you get them coated if you can fit them.

Thanks. Did you do the install yourself? It's my only car and wouldn't want it down for more than two/three days. Race set-up or not? Which would you recommend? idd you get the catted y-pipe from them as well?

Here's 3 photos my Kooks headers/y-pipe, installed, starting here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/calder.c...07344196777330
start at that photo and click "right" arrow to continue.

My car is not lowered - stock height, considering mileage of course (150k)

Edit: I did the install myself in just a hair over 2 hours (transmission was not in place).

The LPP LT's are looking to be a hit. I believe I'm one of the lucky 50 that will get to try these babies, aslong as the price is right.

As far as the combination of lowering springs and LT's, I wouldn't even try it here in Wyoming, our roads are terrible. However maybe in your neck of the woods you could get away with it.

They look very promising, hopefully they perform well in the fitment/quality departments and they come at a good cost.

I have the DMS lowering springs and have the Flow Tech LT's and ORY. I can get around town fairly well, but def. know where I can and can't go. Speed bumps are a definite no no.
