Need help in Georgia

This is unfortunate that this has to be my first post here, but I just moved here from the West Coast and now my engine has gone to crap ( three cracked pistons, bent rods, etc). Are there any good shops for performance/stroker motors around the Columbus area? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Gary Grimes at Grimes Auto Machine in Alpharetta, he does good work but he might not be the cheapest. 770-475-5272

I've heard good things about Grimes, as well, but that is a long way from Columbus,Georgia. Try asking some local performance guys (older GM 350's, Corvettes, Mustangs) to see who they recommend. Unless you are looking for a really wild build-up, most decent shops should be able to handle it. Just to freshen an engine up is not terribly difficult... you really just need a shop that does engine rebuilds (not a common sight any more, sadly).

Thanks for the help. I couldn't find anyone locally that could really support me, so I ended up buying a new longblock. The MTI 396 is enroute!! Again, I appreciate the concern and perhaps I'll see some of you sometime around the Ga area. Take Care.

I see that you've already ordered a block...but you can still hook up with these guys as I'm sure they would like to see the car when it's done.

BTW, I'm jrutland on there as well.

This guy built one of my friends Grand Sport Corvettes. It's a 383 with a 6lb blower. I don't know all the specs on the car. I have only talked to the guy maybe 4-5 times. He is good friends with my friend. But he gave me a card for

SuperSlow,
I live in north Atlanta, just below the 'Hooch on Roswell Road, but I work in Marietta. Feel free to give me a call at 770-778-1350 if you want to hang out. I work in law enforcement, so my hours are a bit strange, but I would love to hang out with some F-body guys, as well. I used to spend every day around F-bodies when I worked at Year One/Next Generation, but the only car guy I now hang out with on a regular basis drives an Audi A4 1.8T (it's a great car, but very different from an F-body).

Like I said, feel free to give me a call. It may take me a day or two to respond, just depends on my work schedule, training, court, etc.

Hey, 94zvert, I'm from Smiths, AL just across the river. Good job on the 396! If you want to check out a local club in columbus, check out http://www.street-machines.org I'm a member there and you'd fit in nicely with the rest of us. It's a club for V8, rwd cars. It consists of camaros, firebirds, mustangs, impala ss's, etc.

Well, I have the engine and a new tranny, but no one to install them. Anyone know of anyone who could drop these in for me in the Columbus area (It would need to be towed.) There just seems to be no one in this area that deals with this kind of stuff. Thanks again.

Hows that for timing.I have my old 396 in my livuing room i would have sold you..

I can tow the car up here to atlanta and install it for you and you can drive back..I can do the whole deal for $800 + parts..Let me know..It will have to be in a week or two since I already have a RX7 getting a 412/700R4 and the rain has set me back a little.
