NC (Charlotte Area) Emissions/Inspections ?

Hi everybody! Could anybody summarize the emissions or other inspections required in the Charlotte, NC area?

I was offered a job on Friday in Charlotte, and I'll likely be accepting once I pass through a criminal back ground check and will be relocating from Ohio.

What are my chances of not having any issues with emissions or other inspections? Car is a 94 Firehawk (OBD1) with LT's, no cat, and deleted A.I.R. and E.G.R.

Does NC have any collectible or special vehicle exemptions? Here in Ohio, any car in the NADA Collectible and Classic Car guide (Firehawks, SS's, etc.), or any car with 5K+ in documented modifications is emissions exempt provided you have a second vehicle registered in your name. Any chance NC has a similar law?

If I have to add cats, thats not a problem, although I'd rather avoid the hassle. Being that I have the 'non-emissions' Jet Hot LT's, I'm kinda SOL with the A.I.R. and E.G.R. systems.

Any ideas on what I'm in for when I try to register my 'Hawk?

Thanks!
CL

I live just north of Charlotte in Mooresville. Really can't answer the question for you as I'm pretty new here too. You may want to check out CarolinaRides.com. Pretty cool site with plenty of helpful locals, I'm sure someone there can give you a good idea.

You don't have to worry about passing an emissions test.

Only inspection now is safety equipment (tires, lights, etc) for 95 and older. OBDII vehicles have to pass a test by the computer. Although, if your check engine light doesn't work or is on you will fail.

I'm OBD1, so no issues there...

Do you think I'll have an issue with not having a rear seat/seatbelts?

Not unless you drive up with someone sitting back there
