Damn those boys were up here in NC trying to sale that **** in December. I know the two that I saw were to white boys in a White Chevy van with some huge tower speakers and surround sound setups. Does this sound like the same two ???

I've been approached by them both in the Raleigh, NC area. Once in 1999, and again about a year later. Havent seen them lately though. Either these guys are well traveled, or there are quite a few people that do this.

Know thats the same story we heard at RPM. They had these huge tower speakers and did not have a set price.

Hahahahahaha

This is an scam and a very old one. I was stupid enough to fall for it the first time I was approached because I was actually in the market for some speakers at the time and only 16 and thought what a great coincidence . . .

Anyway, there is this company that runs a warehouse and trains people how to sell speakers out of a van with the same story. They are nationwide and very shady but organized enough to recruit and stay in business driving around, telling lies and selling speakers.

I even had some approach me in the last month, the same guys twice in the same day.

So how does the scam work...

You purchase what looks to be bas a$$ speakers...but when you get 'em home and hook 'em up...you soon realize that they are some crappy SparK '0 Matics or that there not "real" speakers...

Whats the catch...

They work and are decent speakers . . . full retail value is maybe $50 a pair but they have paperwork printed up showing value at around $750. They usually show you the prints if they get your attention long enough and give some story about they were accidentally loaded on the truck and the boss said they have to get rid of them so offer anything. So they just look for people to pay a bunch of money for cheap speakers. They will take almost anything for them too and get pretty desperate to just make the sale. I actually know someone who they tried to hire and gave the full tour of the factory and sales pitch to. Very shady business in my opinion

The same thing happened to me but they were selling speakers and DVD players. Happened a while ago, but the thread sparked my memory.

I had them try this scam on me twice in the same year. One time they claimed their speakers were AC5, and bose and cerwin vega were AC1, and infinity were AC2.. I said, "have you seen boogie nights?". They said yes of course. I said, "is it hi-fidelity, do they have the tk-427 modification, is it 4 quads per channel?". He said, "huh?". I said "'I'll give you $1". He didn't take that offer, so of course I took off and continued on my way.

BTW: A friend of mine actually bought the speakers for $150. They weren't bad, but definately not worth $150. Another friend bought them for like $100, and then replaced all the speakers in them with badass speakers and just used the boxes and now has a nice setup for cheap

i actually bought a set for $150 2 years ago. I use them everyday and they arent that bad. They sound decent, and im not about to drop a freekin load on a set of nice brand name ones. "digital pro audio" is on the bottom...pretty cheasy. The speaker tower boxes are pretty decent though....
I dont know how some of you people call it a scam when some of the stuff they sell isnt that bad. Car insurance is a scam....until u need to make a claim.

Wow. I ran into the two guys in a white van selling these speakers. I believe a few cleanup guys at work bought a pair. I also remember when I was in high school (mid 90's), I was approached by a guy with the same setup.

Too odd........look at all these people with the same exact story!
