Would you be interested in a T-56 Trans cooler?
Would you be interested in a T-56 Trans cooler?
I have a friend that works for B&M racing and Im trying to get him to develop some sort of trans cooler for the manual transmissions.
It would be super simple to install and I was thinking about using the drain and fill plugs for the feed and return lines respectivly.. He just need to know if there would be an interest for something like this. I would like to have one, esp for hot days at places like Big Willow. Im sure your synchros and bearings would thank you.

WTF... What would be the point in that? If you are gonna do that then you might as well get a cooler for your rear end as well.. same difference..
In my opinion, its a waste of anyones time to even consider this.. Just my .02 cents tho.. no bashing or insulting intended..

Not to mention the need of some sort of external pump? Doesn't seem to be worth it. You don't really see too many complaints of T56 failure due to heat.
Re: Would you be interested in a T-56 Trans cooler?
the whole point of this would be for road racers and open road racers that are really flogging on their transmissions for an hour plus at a time. And if you do some research it is not pointless. There are pleanty of purpose built racecars out there with transmission coolers for their manual transmissions. And as far as the rear end cooler, there are kits out there for that. I don't think that this would be at all helpful for drag racers or people that occassionaly flog their cars out on the street. This would be for someone that would be using their cars for street/track use, auto x, RR, ORR, etc.
As far as the pump goes, its quite simple, there are actually a couple different electric oil pumps out there, and the routing of the lines would be super easy. It would be both cheap and effective. I know my transmission really starts acting funky when I beat on it for a hundred miles or so either at the track or canyon running. I have a friend with a 95 and his hates reverse after a hard day of running the canyons, so its not just my car, I know that much.

I think this would be an answer to a question almost nobody has asked. The few people who moght need it probalby aren't running T56's. It is not a transmission suitable for endurance racing.

It's needed, and quite a few guys are running the T56 in an open road race, the few that have done it has just pieced together the setup as I've casually been looking to do.
As for the need, the vette guys with the tranny temp gauge know it's needed as they complain about having to take a couple slow laps just on open track days because the dummy light comes on and it takes alot less than an hour of beating to bring the temp up. The typical f body doesn't need it. But there is a smaller group that would definitly welcome it, at the right price of course.
