Won't shify out of park!!

I bought a '94 Sunbird a few weeks ago for my daily beater. Well I am in the process of changing out the front hub assembly (d/s), I started the car and and tried to get it into gear and it seems to be stuck in Park! It feels like whatever triggers when you press the brake isn't functioning properly. I do have the caliper pulled off one side if that makes a difference. Is there something I can do? I can't think of anything I might have messed up while changing the hub assembly. Help!

I'm not sure about the Sunbird, but on an auto F-body there is a solenoid mounted on the gear selector shifter that prevents shifting unless the brake is depressed.

It's the black part at the top of the pic (the one with the orange clip on it).

there is a shift interlock on it. there is something in the console you should be able to push and bypass it.

So many different cars without seeing it I couldn't tell you.

Thanks for the info guy, I will check into that stuff. I know I am not currently hearing the "click" when I push the brake in to be able to get it out of park.

Try turning the key to the first click only. This position is supposed to unlock the steering wheel and the shifter without having the power on or having to use the brakes.
If you can get it to shift that way then it's a problem with the brake interlock.
If it won't shift with the key in the first click then check to see if the shift **** is all the way down on the shaft. The keeper came out of mine once and the **** came up on the shaft enough that it wouldn't shift anymore.
