will a stall kill an a4?

Guy's i'm going to order a TCI SSF 3500. I want to know that this is not going to destroy my tranny in 2 months. I'm planning on putting the biggest cooler i can find on it.

Someone told me that its not the stall that kills the tranny, it's tq. I only put out 276 ft-lbs. to the wheels..so do i have anything to worry about?

Tats a tough question to answer. But I will do my best. The converter itself will not "kill" your trans. A converter will change the amount of power you put thru the trans. That being said you may help break something that is already weak... but unless you know that ahead of time its just a gamble. Chances are that if you have keept up on the maintenance and fluid changes the trans itself is in good shape. But if its got alot of miles then you may just help speed the process with a larger stall.

Heat is also a bad thing. A higher stall will create more heat. An add on cooler is always a good investment and some additional insurance. I would also recommend a remote mount filter to help clean the fluid.

as was said, the stall isn't going to hurt your tranny on its own....if you launch it on sticky tires a couple hundred times in a row and drive it around at low speed flashing th converter everywhere, then yes, you'll hurt something. however, under normal circumstances, people drive thousands of miles with stalled autos and never have a problem. run the cooler and maybe a trans temp gauge to keep an eye on the heat. if everything is healthy, you shouldn't have any problem at all.

Hey man how did that front pump work out for ya??

Cooler is a must.. everything state is good advise. As long as trans is well taken care of you should be fine..

All converters have a torque multiplication ratio which increases the torque by that factor at the rated stall speed. Some are higher than others and I don't know what the stock stall has. Ask the manufacturer what theirs is. The higher it is the more it will hit like a hammer and be more risky.

Why such a high stall with a pretty much stock engine?

stock STR (stall torque ratio) is 1.6. the SS3500 is probably either a 2.0 or 2.2

my vig is a 3800 with a 2.5 STR. when it's hooked up it leaves like a rocket.
