Will my rearend hold?

I have hooker longtubes, ORYP, Borla Catback, 4.10 gears on the stock 10 bolt rearend, lid, ls6 intake manifold, star stage 3 clutch, and a trex cam. I havent got it dyno tuned or anything yet. But im wondering if my rearend will hold. Should i go with a girdle or should i just wait another 2 months to drive my car and save up for a 12bolt or a 9" rearend? Anyone know if it will hold or not? If not what should i do? By the way the car is an m6.

Thanks for the help,
John Melamed

It will hold until you launch hard the first time with sticky tires.

Seriously the 4:10 ratio is a weak combination. The pinion is too small. It will take teeth off. Better saved up for that 12 bolt or a 9".

I have heads/cam, Pace Setter headers with cutout, PI 3600 stall, lid and a few light weight mods. My rear had taken a 1.496 launch but I have a 3.23 gear. It has 13 teeth on the pinion as compared to your 10 teeth.

It's just a matter of time. Even if you launch easy...if you shift good (quickly) you could easily break it on the 1-2 shift. I know people who have done just that and that's what I'm worried about (with my car)...enough so that I won't take my car back to the track until I have a 12-bolt.

So...save up for the 12-bolt.

dude as long as you keep street tires on your car it will hold up cause you will never get traction with them. putting on dr's with all those mods you got and having a manual that rear-end is shot. i put 4.10 in my 99 z-28 auto with dr's but didnt modify it too much just lm exhaust free cold air, mafs smooth bellows and my car is pullin high 12's all day long and the rear end is holdin like a champ.cant really do too much more or the rear will be gone.

youll be fine, just dont get to crazy with the rpms when you launch. just stay away from et streets. you should even be fine on some drag radials.

I have broken three ring and pinions in my 10 bolt. Have killed one posi. Have destroyed one pinion bearing. And the rear end is whining so loud right now that I can hear it easily over my true duals and bullet mufflers.

My point is, I have done all this damage with drag radials.

Are the LS1 rear ends like 7.5" or something?

I have a stock GM 10bolt 8.5" (94 Caprice) and it's taken plenty of hard sticky tire launches, and my car weighs more. Is the 1" in rearend size really that much stronger?

The fastest it's seen is 12 second runs, slowest is 15, and about 150 actual track runs inbetween.

Posi is burned out now though Works when it feels like it (about 40% of the time)

383 going in though, I don't figure it to last through that.
