will my rear end hold?
will my rear end hold?
i noticed there was another thread so it brought my attention...I am about to have hooker LT's and ORY installed...along with my heads and intake ported and a crane cam 276/280 530/530....do you think my stock rearend will hold up fine? I dont dump the clutch and dont goto the track but once a year with street tires....is it ok for messing around on the street?

If your going to continue running street tires then your 10 bolt will last forever. You will just spin all day long and not go anywhere. But you won't break anything. If you step it up to Drag Radials and launch easy (no high rpm clutch dumps or 60' times under 2.0) then you'll be just fine with a stock 10 bolt as well.
But if you use slicks or really heat up Drag Ragials and go for a hard launch your gonna break that 10 bolt faster then you can say "10 bolts suck". My advice is if you do not care about racing from a dig either at the track or on the street then just upgrade to Drag Radials and you'll be fine. If you want to race at all competitively and utilize that new found power then don't mess around and start saving for that 12 bolt now. Your gonna probably want a 12 bolt eventually. All that power is kind of pointless if you can't put it to the ground.

If I were you I would get the heads work and cam now like your planning. Make sure you get a good tune after that of course. Then get a pair of Nitto 555R Drag Radials on the back but be VERY careful when driving in rain on Drag Radials that have more then 4K miles on them. When you launch from a light be aggressive if you like but still stay a bit conservative. NO HIGH RPM CLUTCH DUMPS until you get a 12 bolt ot 9" rearend.
On the street with minimal traction you will be fine. But your gonna get pulled off the line by autos everytime and then you'll have to look for enough road to reel them back in.
Good Luck
No problem. You really should be fine on the street because a dead hook is almost impossible without slicks. Your gonna have lots of traction issues but the 10 bolt should be safe. It's that occasional trip to the track that you'll have to be real careful with if you get the Drag Radials. Track prep and heated Nittos can get you enough of a hook to bust a 10 bolt if your not careful.
Good luck with your upcoming project and have fun

Hey guys I have a similar question about my 10 boltrear end. I am running nittos drag radials with 405 horsepower to the wheels and I am thinking about changing to a 410 gear. I am launching at about 2500 and still burning the tires but the problem is that whith the big cam the car bogs when it does finally hook up. Is it worth putting the 410s in since I will not be able to afford a 12 bolt anytime soon and what rpm do you consider to be a hard launch? I am really new to racing a stick car and have no idea how to launch it. I do not plan on getting better tires since my car is set up for handleing and I only take it to the track every once in a while.
If you are having problems hooking up now, I doubt the 4.10's will make it any easier.
The 4.10's will be more fragile than the stock gears, if that is what you have currently.
Any time you push a piece of equipment you run the risk of breakage.
My personal hunch is you need to learn how to launch the car the way it is before you start making changes.
