whining sound in rear end

on my 94 z28 i can hear a faint whining sound in the back ...im pretty sure its the rear end...i can barely hear it though and when i turn the wheel it gets a little bit louder and when im accelerating i can barely hear it but i can hear it...i know it as to do with my rear end but i was just wondering. i know none of you guys know exactly to what extent my problem is or know what it is exactly but do u have a range of $ it would maybe cost to fix it...or any ideas of what it is exactly..thanks for your help

As the rear end ages, it's parts start to loosen, so the gears might be whining. If you have changed the gears then the whining will be more evident. Check for any rear end leaks, such as the rear seals. If enough gear oil has leaked out then it might be causing this but I doubt that it's a leak because you would have noticed (and smelled) it.
