where to go now?
I cant keep spending money on 6-speeds, I broke a viper model last week. I have two Hughes full race powerglides and converters ready to go. This will require me to change out my 4:10s in order to keep from over rev at the end of the track. I would like to run an overdrive trans because the car does enjoy the every-now-and-then cruise, but I don't want to spend more money on a trans that might leave me again. I know the PG's will hold up, but I question their ability to perform on the street. Any thoughts? Does anyone run these things on the street? I have plenty of friends that use them in profesional heads-up racing, but?
I have converters from 3500 - 5500
Turbo car, 355, 3350#'s race weight, 12-bolt with 4:10, 6500rpm shift point, max torque at aprox 4400, max hp at 6400, adjustable boost 9# on up (I like to run 15 for street). 18inches of vac at idle, full boost by 3100rpm.
Any help is welcome
thanks: Wingnut

Damn what a car!!
With that kind of power a Lenco might be right for you. Or a TH400 with an overdrive unit. Gearvendors claims their OD unit will handle 1200hp, so a TH400/GV OD unit might be a possiblity. This will give you a .70 OD with the TH400 in 3rd and the OD unit in high. Plus you'll have 6 gears to choose from (so you can either engage the unit in 3rd for a 4th gear at the end of the track or split any of the other gears during the run). Either route will be a little pricey though.
Hope this helps.

Newer Chevy pick ups use 4L80E's basically an Overdrive 400turbo with electronic tuning capability. They will eat a little more hp than a race prepped 700r4/4L60 but are supposed to be near indestructable...(sorry/sleepy..)

Thanks!
I called gear vendors today and it will be 2300.00 for an od unit to fit the PG's. I have thought about even a 4L80, but to big and heavy. However, I have never heard of an 4L760 are they similar to the 4L80?
