What's my rear gear?

Is there any way I can find out what my rear gear is, without taking things apart?

Would the serial number on the pumpkin or something tell me what gear I have?

Jack the car up. Have someone turn a wheel one full revolution. Be under the car and count how many times the driveshaft spins.

EX:
2 3/4 turns = 2.73
3 1/4 turns = 3.23
Etc.

I was told it was a 700R4, but I didnt check any serial numbers or anything to make sure. But it has 1st, 2nd, drive, and overdrive.

That method will only work as long as the diff is a posi type where both wheels turn the same direction.........not an open type where one wheel will spin opposite direction to the other.
