What's it like having a stall without a shift-kit?
My friend told me his 2800 vigilante made his 2-3 shift REAL mushy and after the first day he couldn't stand it, and bought a transgo shift kit. Is it really going to be this bad? I don't want to end up putting another grand into this car

A shift kit is a good idea as long as your transmission is showing absolutely no slippage. They've actually been known to prolong the life of your transmission...
Yup, the shifts are absolutely horrible after a stall. Just get a shift kit and eliminate that problem. Trans-Go is only around $100 bucks or so. You'll be very glad you got one. FYI make sure you get a tranny cooler installed before you get the stall installed. You absolutely NEED that.
So what your saying is get a shift kit with a stall? I already have the Transgo Heavy duty kit sitting here in the room...Dana at pro-built recommended the heavy over the other kit. I also have the .500 boost valve with it............

They make the shifts very very slushy/sloppy. Most people can't stand such soft shifts. Plus the terrible shifting creates heat which again is a killer of auto's. Ask around on this board and see if someone in your area can do it for you. That's what I did with mine and then also I'm hooking my buddy up doing the same thing. Good luck.
If you add a "stall" only, and the shifts "seem" softer, then adding a Trans-Go "modified" Shift kit will firm things back up, but still keep the shifts smooth at light throttlee openings. Just remember when adding a smaller diameter converter that the transmission is not shifting any softer or slower, there ijusts less mass (weight) being slowed down during gear shifts, thereby less "shift " feel. This is actually easier on the transmission, so you are not hurting anything.
