Whats the difference???

I need a new clutch and I found a cheap Centerforce DF. The problem is that it says that it only fits the LS1. I have the LT1. Don't both cars use the same T56? Or am I just retarded?

Re: Whats the difference???

i could be wrong but i believe the input shafts of the lt1 t56 and the ls1 t56 have different splines, resulting in differently splinded clutch discs

there may be more differances that i am unaware of

Re: Whats the difference???

The clutches in the LS1 are a more conventional "pusher" design - releases by pushing the T/O bearing forward. The LT1 uses a unique "pullback" setup, that releases by pulling the T/O bearing backwards. No way to interchange the designs unless you altered the slave cylinder system on the LT1 (slave pushes forward on a fork that is pivoted off a ball on the front cover of the T56) to match the LS1 T56 design that mounts the slave cylinder to the front cover of the T56, concentric to the input shaft, acting directly on the T/O bearing.

Re: Whats the difference???

WOW! So that would explain why the LT1 clutch is way more expensive than the LS1. That really bites!

Yup! I paid ~$450 for my clutch, where my buddy was quoted ~$1200 for the same one for his LT1! (CDN$$)

Well… technically you can interchange, but you have to use the LS1 style front tranny case/input assembly to even have a surface to mount the LS1 style throwout to. Some people have done it to get away from the backwards pressure plated design used on the LT1’s
