whati is the difference between "lt1 and LS1" Tranny

I was considering the idea of putting in a ls6 engine in my 96 SS. I have heard from a few people that the tranny set up is differnt from the lt1 if so what is the big change. I am also in the hunt of getting a new clutch so I want to do it right the first time if you know what i mean.
Thanks

The input shaft on the tranny's are different. I think that costs 400+ and then the install costs. I'm pretty much certain you'd have to have a different bellhousing and probably clutch slave/master assy.

so it would be ideal to just get another tranny, in your opinion. what do you think about the idea?

Different bellhousing, different bolt pattern to engine (if I remember correctly), LS1's have a hyd. throwout bearing, LT1's use a clutch fork.

Yes, you'd need to get a whole motor trans set-up as I don't think the trans. can be adapted (just guessing, not 100% sure though).

If you want more horses, you are probably better off by far to keep your own engine tranny combo and build it up. With a bit of head work a cam and headers and you'll have a very strong setup capable of putting 400 to the wheels. I'm sure that an LS6 with tranny to match will be much more expensive, and probably not much more powerful.
