what will be the best for me?

what would be the difference from a stock 97 auto formula's rear end to a 4.10?

what would be the advantages/disadvantes of this? would i gain or lose anything? i hear gas mileage suffers? not sure. i couldn't really find a good thread in searching for anything.

how DO you install these? easy?

Actually this is talked about all the time, most people will say that the 4.10 is a little steep for daily drivers. 3.73's are just about right from what i've heard. Oh yea, i wouldn't recomend installing them your self unless you know a buddy that has done it before, it is kind of tricky to set them up right so you get the proper gear mesh.

i know it's been brought up before...but it's better for someone to help me out with my car instead of like a 99 t/a or a 95 firehawk etc. but thanks man appreciate it.

how much will places usually charge to put these in?

Re: what will be the best for me?

Well to install a set of gears a local shop quoted me $300 to do it. I think that is about the going rate these days. I have rebuilt motors and done clutch jobs, etc.. but i have never got into the rear, maybe some day i will learn. If you don't shim them right they will be loud and wear abnormally. Also find a speed/gear calculator and put in your trany ratio's and tire size with the 3.73 and 4.10 gears and see what your cruising speed rpm's are and what your trap speed would be in 3rd gear at redline. us 6 speed guys like to go with the 4.10 but we have a crazy .5-1 overdrive so it dosen't kill your mileage on the highway.
