what is a transmission additive

what is a transmission additive

my tramsmission is slipping and more that likely im gonna get it rebuilt. but my father told me to add an additivel so i wanted to know what that does to the transmission is it good or bad.

I never really suggest them but if your problem is just due to seal hardening they can soften seals and sometimes not allways give you a little time.Kinda like bypass surgery. But at best if it works at all its a short term bandaid,
But it wont help with a mechanical issue and as mentioned above if the trans is really close to dead it may kill it quicker, Of course if its dying anyway dosent matter to much. But I have seen 140000 mile trans slipping a little add that and it get a new lease on life for a little while, Though I hate digging the seals out of one after its had that stuff in it and NEVER EVER PUT A SEALANT ADDITIVE IN A NEW TRANS.
