What are the symptoms of air in the clutch lines?

My car tonight seemed fine.. but when i was on the high way messing around i was WOT and tried to go from 4th to 5th but it almost went into reverse.. Then after that i pulled over and checked everything and everything seemed to be ok.. but when i started driving again i noticed that the shifter felt sloppy... not tight like it was.. This is a brand new clutch.. About 5 days old. Its a spec Stage 3.. what could cause my problems like this? could it be air in the lines???

The actual shifter is sloppy? is it a stock shifter? any weird noises? If it was air in the slave/master line it'd be in the pedal and would'nt disengage the clutch fully..

Yes . Because if you had air in the line your clutch would not disengage.

OMFG.. there would be other symptoms maybe... like the tranni may grind gears when shifting, the tranni may shift hard, pedal might feel loose, clutch might smell from not disenguaging all the way.. who knows.. keep quiet you A4er!!

You are right that there are other symptoms besides bubbles (although that can be true as well . Basically if you have air in your lines, your pedal will stick to the floor. You might be able to pump it up and get it to work again, but you won't be able to disengage until you do. I don't know that this always happens, but that's what happened with my '96 when I got a small leak in the line. It wasn't enough to really leak out fluid significantly, but it wouldn't allow it to build up any pressure. I actually got stuck in a drive through the first time it happened! GRRRRR!!! It took me almost 5 minutes to get the thing to work, and of course there was a GT behind me of all things Way to make Camaros look good, huh?

As far as your shifter being sloppy, this might sound stupid, but is it bolted down tight? Is it bent, etc? I'm sure you've already checked that, but just thought I'd add that. Also, is it aftermarket or stock? My B&M on my 5 spd always goes too far right when I go for 5th, and it will grind it, but if I don't put it all the way over it goes right in no problem.

That's about all the input I have. Hopefully you'll get it figured out soon. Good luck!

Danielle
