what stalls r better

what is better as far as stalls go i wass lookin for since im changing my tranny. im looking for a good cheap stall i just wanna wake it up a lil u know. wass looking a b&m one i think it was 2200 for like 279.99 so yall give me some ideas.

Some time back I installed a B&M 2200 stall in my stock 96 (when it was stock) and noticed a decrease in performance. What a pain. I don't think that the B&M converter is as efficient as the stocker. Something to keep in mind is that the B&M's are rebuilt/modified stock units. As soon as I can afford to refresh my tranny, I'm gonna put in a 10" Yank 3200 converter. They're kinda expensive but you get what you pay for. Long story short, spend as much as you can afford on a new converter. Look at TCI, Yank, Precision Industries/Vigilante... (the last two will be more expensive) someone other than B&M. And for stock, 2800 rpm stall is good.

If wanting to stay that cheap and understanding you are leaving a lot of performance on the table talk to Edge or Vigilante about a 12" unit. Ideally I would say Edge Yank or Vigilante 9.5" but those start at roughly twice what you want to spend, though they really are better and really can drive quite well even well over 3000stall.

TCI and Fuddle seem to be hit and miss and Midwest seems to be bad news.

what he said - but I prefer 3200-3600 even stock
I've swapped at least 8 convertors and Yank works.
Sorry - no cheap way to do a convertor unless a used one is offered at a low price.

the car is stock for starters ,i just wanna get something small. do yall think a stall is good for a stocker? what is the smalls stall but good there is?

my experience with stalls is thatit's more common to get one that did too litttle for your money than getting one that is too much like race.
I mean - a 2800 or 3200 generic stall may not do a darn thing compared to say 3.73 gears (similar cost mod)
but a 3500-3600 stall will put you back in the seat, drive great around town and still get decent gas miles when locked up.
trick is getting the right one the first time
again - experience cost me plenty of money
a 3200 midwest= too much like stock, a 3200 vig - was too loose but still not a hard hit from idle - 4400 was wild but too much - 4000 was awesome and a 3600 was just right
TCI, B+M, and others are more "off the shelf" type while Yank just plain works right with stock or major mods.
If you can't swing $350-500 for a low mile used Yank 3400-3600 just buy a different mod for now. Otherwise save until you can do it.
The labor sucks to do over and over -
I agree you should get a stall while your trans is out - but don't cut corners just to have to do it again.
Maybe do the trans and put some gear in, or headers - then do a stall once you find the right one.

the only reason i wass adding a stall cause when the tranny let go, i had a replacement out of a 96 caprice. i was looking at some site and they said something bout the converters for the caprice being bigger bolts holes for the converter or something like that.so thats the reason im looking to stall my camaro wit a caprice tranny. i wass looking at yank website the 2800 stall is 450 i can swing that , but is that converter good to use for stock?

tthey have a page called convertor selector - it lists mods to the gears and suggested convertor
I'd call them and tell them what you have and what other mods you may add down the road.
If you buy it new - they can make that 2800 actually a 3200 or 3400 for you
give them a call if you can swing 450
if they suggest a higher priced unit - search for it used here or ls1tech
