What are some simptoms of a bad clutch?

I took it to a few places and 1 says my clutch is going bad the other say the clutch may be O.K. it might be something else.
it smells like if i were driving with the E-brake on, but i'm not, just like burnig brakes.
if i do need to change my clutch what parts should be changed besides the clutch disk?
by the way it's a '96 Z28 M6 w/ 39,235 miles on it no Mods and probably not to many to come.

Studders or no pull on acceleration(similar to misfiring plug) I get a smell from bad traffic and my clutch is a new dual centreforce. Make sure the clutch bearing is replaced. I remember my stock clutch would slip a lot but also told it was normal, I did have a few bolt ons and couldn't deal with it anymore. My clutch when they pulled it was gone.
PS. Curious, do you have a noise at the flywheel when sitting with the clutch disengaged?

Well first, that stink is a good sign your clutch is going. Also, if you leave it in gear, can you run it all the way to 5500 RPM in each gear? If your clutch is slipping, the tach will jump in RPMs especially in the upper RPM range. When you clutch slips, you will notice an increase in engine speed, but no increase in vehicle speed. Its similar to spinning your tires, but instead of the tires spinning, its your clutch.

About that slave cylinder, you can get an entire pre-filled clutch hydraulic assembly from GM Parts Direct.com or from a dealership. Its most likely not your hydraulics though. If you need to replace your clutch, you'll need a new pilot bushing, a new clutch disc, a new pressure plate, and a new throwout bearing (those usually come with the pressure plate). You'll also need your flywheel resurfaced. Do a search on this topic, you'll find a ton of info.
