What makes a tranny shift hard?
Beside line pressure, what makes a tranny shift hard? I want to know this because I need a tranny that's set up to handle 400 or so horsepower but I don't want it shifting hard. I don't want those annoying neck snap shifts when just cruising. I know I can control some of it with line pressure but what makes it shift hard when it's built up so I can avoid going too big with that piece?

do you have a stall converter? if not, get one. at rpms before it stalls (like cruising) you wont really feel the shift as it is absorbed by the converter when its not locked up. but you will still have the firm shifts at higher rpms.
Thanks for the good advice, espicially about increasing the stall Budgetlt1. I wasn't considering a stall because the car is only street and a stall is mainly just for the strip (with no pre-burnout and 380 hp I'd just smoke cold tires on the street). I'll try a low stall (2300 to 2500) and see if that gets rid of the increased harshness expected from the Performa's level 2.
