gear

Don't put a 4.10 in the stock rear,it will be broken in 30 days with hard use.A 3.73 is a much better choice. You will need an install kit also.Buy anything but a Richmond,They will be wining in a short time.

How long has it been in? I have changed 3 for my customers and all three had broken pinion teeth.Of course these cars obviously HOOK better than your's.Yours is just a matter of time. The pinion gear is no larger than an egg. All of these cars run better than 1.55 60'

I also recommend going with a 3.73 gear. Personally, I think Strange makes some of the best gears out there.

If you could I would get 4.11's. You won't be able to tell a difference b/t the 4.10's, but the ratio of teeth that they use in the 4.11's allow for a bigger pinion gear. So they will be stronger.

I always thought 3:90's would be perfect for these cars but no one makes them. I know a guy with 4:56's in an M6 and he beats it like he stole it everyday! No rear end problems.

gear

Your buddy may have a 4.56,but it isn't in a stock 7-1/2" 10 bolt. That is what comes stock in his '97.
