id say either 373 or 410...i have a 97 ss 6speed w/ 4.10's and i love them. of course 4.10 will be slightly worse w/ gas milage...but i think its worth it

Either 3.73s or 4.10s, I would go with the 4.10s though.

2 qt's of gear oil and a install kit. if you never done them before and dont have help from someone else who has, id suggest paying someone to do it. the backlash needs to be set properly.

gears

I can tell you this much. I went from 273 to 410 in my 95 auto and absolutley hate it, I have a buddie that has an m6 with 373s and he wishes he would have went with the 410s. I have ridden in his car and think it would be awesome with the 410

yeah, i think 4.10 is more of a gear for a m6 car...but it all depends on what you like...373 IMO is a really good a4 gear.

as for installing the gears...like myslowcamaro said...your gonna need a install kit...and its pretty hard for you first time setting up the backlash correctly...and it has to be dead on, or your gonna ruin the gears

Why not 3.90's. I think of them as a nice mid point between the 3.73 and the 4.10. I rode in both a 3.73 and a 4.10 6 speed f body. I think the 3.73's were a nice street gear but maybe didn't have the umph that I would want. The 4.10's were VERY nice, but I didn't like having to shift all the time and frankly without drag radials 1st and 2nd gear was useless. That was on an all motor car too and I will be running some spray.

Like I said, I found the 3.90's to be a nice compromise. I guess I will find out for sure when I put them in.

i love my 4.10's in my a4. it all depends on your driving style. and where you are going to be taking it.

I had 3.90's in my 8.8 rear end. I liked them but they weren't enough gear in my opinion but that rear end was strong enough to take abuse and could of handled more gear. Now for a 10 bolt I would probably choose a set of 3.90's because they can probably handle the abuse better than the 4.10's.
