I know on the door of my car it says I have 3.23's. But this is not the stock rearend in the car. The woman that had it before me had it replaced. So if someone could give me some engine rpm speeds or whatever for the gear i would appreciate it. I have an A4

 

go 76 mph in 3rd gear (1:1). Whatever the RPM is at, that is your gear. Example: 3400 rpm = 3.42 gears or 2700 = 2.73.

 

I though 4th gear was 1:1??

 

In an A4, 3rd gear is one to one. In a M6, 4th gear is one to one.

That is really neat! That's gotta be the easiest way for people to figure out their gear ratio if they're unsure.

 

The only problem is that not everyones spedo is the same and some can very upto 10mph. Not sure if that would effect the 76mph thing or not but sounds like it would throw it off.

 

That does not effect this way of testing the gear ratio. If you have different gears and the speedos are off, then the RPM will be different, resulting in a different gear ratio.

Also, who wouldn't notice their speedometer is off by 10 mph? If it is off by 5 then still no biggy. the RPM will be close enough to tell you what you want to know.

 

If you are not sure of your rear gear ratio, pull the cover and count the gear & pinion teeth. Or the easy way check the ratio stamped of the ring gear OD. Other methodes are guess work.
