Question What could this be?

My trans. is making a very strange vibration. It only does it at speeds of 50mph of higher, and only when I'm coasting or crusing. As soon as I give it some gas it stops, and as soon as I drop below 50 mph it stops. Could my converter not be balanced correctly, could it be my tail shaft, etc... The trans, and converter in the car is stock, and I've only got 44,000 miles on it too.

Make sure there's no play in the tailshaft with the driveshaft. Check the trans. mount, make sure the crossmember is bolted up tight.. could be lots of things. what sort of vibration is it?

sounds like an unblanaced driveshaft creating harmonics are a certain speed. Check the driveshaft maby some wieghts fell off.

It's kind of a droning vibration. It's kinda hard to explain. I wish I could get a sound clip of it. I noticed the u-joint on the driveshaft is a little worn out.

well if it's the u-joint, you can normally hear the play in it when you drop it in gear. If you want to check, though, put the rear end on some jack stands and put it in neutral and pull the e brake up.. crawl under the car and try to turn it back and forth and see if there's any slack in it. when you say worn out do you mean corroded? It might not be greased well.. and it'll wear out quick if it's not. Normally the vibrations would get worse if you got on the gas with a bad u-joint, though..

Well, when I put the car into gear I can hear a thud out back. Like it slams into gear. I'm gonna be putting a 2400 stall in the car anyway. I've got a different driveshaft too, so hopefully that with fix it. If not, I don't know what else it could be.
