rebuiling the trans, but reusing my converter. The 2-4 clutches were near gone from low line pressure and you can tell it was getting hot. I was planning on reusing the converter for now (till i get some more $$$) what could happen in the worst case senario?

Converter clutch could be bad from the low line presure also , Contamination could get in the trans from the old converter. I never consider this a good idea

If you had any previous failure its a bad idea. Will just get that trash in the new trans.

Well you can have it flushed better than nothing but not a great idea, But if you check around local you can likley get a reman converter cheap around 100 dollars.

If it is a good (expensive) converter it's worth the $100 or so it costs to send it back to the manufacturer to be "freshened up". To do this, the case is cut open, everything made nice, and it is rewelded. Taht way, besides ensuring it is working right, it will be completely cleaned out.

i went to a local tranny shop and asked who did their converters, found someone local that cut, cleaned, welded etc etc for 60$. I tried looking in the yellow pages and internet and had found noone, go to the shops there has to be someone close.

Worse case, you'll puke your rebuilt trans. Beg, borrow or steal some money and put a real stall in that thing. Vig. 3400 or a Yank 3600 comes to mind. And don't forget to flush your lines and trans cooler.
