cags stands for computer animated gear shift, if the motor is not reved high enough in first it locks your gear shift to where you have to shift to 4th from 1st, it is on the M6's. All the 6speeds have it, even the vipers. Usualy you can avoid it by reving the motor up higher in the rpm's before shifting or just waiting till the skip shift light turns off. The eliminator cuts it out completely.

Im lost, why would it make you shift to fourth if the RPM's aren't high enough to go to 2nd?

It was supposed to save gas. It kicks in between 1500-2500 RPM, then the "skip shift" light will go off after 2500 RPM. I just take my rev's to 2600 and go to 2nd.

i think it might be computer ANTICIPATED gear shift? anyways its done for emissions and MPG purposes (i think?). its really stupid and if you dont get the engine reved above 35% throtle in 1st gear you get locked out of 2nd and 3rd gear and forced into 4th and with my experience, 99% of the time when this does happen (since you were at < 35% throtle) your are at such a low torque, low RPM (like 1200) 4th gear it does some MAJOR luggin action on the motor.. anyways its just not cool at all and id get it fixed ASAP.

as far as getting it fixed goes you can do 1 of 2 thing.

1) go down to radio shack and buy the cag peice for like 2.99, install it, and wrap that sucker up with a few feet of electrical tape (to keep out the elements)

-or-

2) pay $30 for a nice pretty one thats alrdy got protective measures on it thats ready to clip right on it from someone like SLP (thats who i bought mine from. im very content with mine).

/tek.

Umm ,Computer Aided Gear Selector. Well thats my guess.. Cause its not animated and its not anticipated.. hehe

I still have mine stock. I have never had any issues with it.

It is Computer Aided Gear Selection. The ! in front of it means it was bypassed/removed/eliminated.

There's 2 ways to eliminate it:

1) Buy a Skip Shift Elimination kit from the numerous suppliers that sell them for $18-30.

2) Buy a $0.20 2.2K ohm Resistor and some electrical tape from Radio shack. Remove the connector from the CAGS solenoid and plug the resistor into it and tape it up.

I eliminated mine the first week I had the car and have never looked back. It's an annoyance. I bought the 6 speed because I wanted a manual transmission. If I wanted the car to help me choose what gear to be in I would have bought an automatic.
