I was painting my rear, and had to flip it upside down to paint the bottom. Well, after a while I noticed gear fluid leaking out and it was from this bolt in the pic above. What is the purpose of that bolt, I have no idea. I don't think it secures anything internally because it is only on one side of the axle, it could be a fill hole but it seems to small(and i already have a fill hole in the cover). Anyone know?? Thanks,

Brian

thats not a bolt, its a vent. the center is a bunch of bronze chuncks that allows pressure to vent out.

thanks, that makes a whole lot of sense. Guess the gear fluid just went out of that vent slowly. I guess I kinda screwed up then painting over it, I'll try and clean it off.
