Well i [messed] up again.....but how? UPDATE

how could this have happened:

waste of a good trans

EDIT/UPDATE

so my buddy calls me up after finally getting around to taking the trans apart. He told me 300 for all parts and to swap everything and he was going to put a shift kit and a few other things in for me. He said that the trans is worth about 10 bucks in scrap metal....I laughed....he didn't

he asked why i didn't tell him the reverse didn't work. I said it did and he was shocked. he said everything was F**ed beyond repair inside.....

The new total to fix it is 850. Thats from a friend. Basicly i need a new trans all together.....

so should i fix it or get a new trans? 850 to fix the TH350 seems high and a waste. I plan on having around 650-700hp in a few years (at 510/524 now)

i really want to do a manual conversion or a overdrive auto swap.......

BRIGHTSIDE
w/o me screwing up the housing, i would have never known it was so bad and would have installed it jsut to have it blow. Then i would have to take it all apart again......

Man that suck but honstly to do that you about had to have missed indexing the converter properly thats the only way I could see that type of force could be applied. Sucks though

Explain what you mean by indexing the converter.

The converter has two slots in it that match the two slots in the pump . If they are not in each other the converter will wedge between the pump gears and the flexplate and when you titen it can either break the pump or in your case the case of the trans.

you take a cut-off wheel on a grinder and cut your bell off the trans, then the new bell bolts to your trans using longer bolts for the front pump assy

OMG I AM RETARDED
wow i am 110X more pissed off right now

so i came home from work and decided to take a good look to find out what happened....
i measured everything tosee if there was any difference from the old motor/trans set up to the new....

everything was right on the money

so i say to myself "wtf is wrong here"

sure enough the converter wasn't all the way in. i guess in my excitement to get the motor and trans in the car for the first time made me miss it. when i said i felt it slid in and then engage this is what really happened....

filled it with fluid and put it on whie the trans was on a table...
the first feeling of it going in was really the bottom of the converter pushig against the table.
the second feeling was it going in halfway
spun it a few times but it never whent fully in

came home and turned it 1/4 turn and sure enough it whent in another 3 inches

i was hesitant about posting this due to this proving how stupid i can be, but wtf live and lern

You could probably buy a case for 100 dollars or so and find someone to swap the guts for about the same or a little more , Thats what I would do , And dont feel stupid many people do that in fact its the most comon mistakeI hear about after a new install and it wont move. So your not along and you have learned so not a total loss.

i just got a call back
325 for:
new case
transfer all the parts
all new seals
new filter, gaskets etc
shift kit
and any little things broken he said he will take care of

the part to do the above swap is about 250 so i figure this is a better idea....

lol the guys at work wanna "help me" once its all fixed. they said they want to see a bellhousing blow apart again..... smart asses lol
