Question Vigilante 3000 Stall

HEY EVERYBODY,
Well my tranny just went, with only 104,000 miles on it. Had a vibrating whinny noise coming from there. I'm having the tranny rebuilt for $1300 installed. My question is, i was thinking of getting the vigilante 3000 stall convertor. Will i have shift 1-2 problems i've been hearing about since i have obd1? Would it be better if i installed the vig, after i have my 224/230 114 lsa cam kit installed? Do i need programming to the pcm if the vig is installed?I am going to get the B&M trans coller since it's only $50. Can my fellow f-body brothers help me out, i would really appreciate it. My current mods are in my sig on the bottom.
thanks again.

I can't answer all your questions but I can answer a few for ya

If you get a stall you are going to want a tranny cooler. $50 bucks now will save ya $1300 later. As for programing..... it's a crap shoot. I believe (and might be wrong) that most OBD1 cars w/ a stall higher then 2800 need reprogaming. I was thinking of swapping in an OBD1 PCM but didn't because I have a 3200 stall going in the week.

As for the cam install......if Vigalante is like TCI you probably get a free restall within a 1 or 2 year period (you need to check on that). So if it turns out that 3000 is too much then you can send it away and get what you need. Hope this helps you. Good luck

Mike

I'm pretty sure vigilante allows you a free restall as well.

Just buy the the 2800 Vig. You do get one restall for one year. I am currently running a 4500 vig in my race car, and will be installing a 2800 vig in my daily driver. Not worth the hassle of installing the 3000 vig and not shifting right.

Well, here some answers for you. The PI converter (Vig.) your looking at is a #0 pump converter and it stalls between 2800-3000. There will be a difference in stall depending on the engine setup. My 355 400rwhp A4 with a #0 pump PI (2800-3000stall) stall around 3200-3300. My engine combo gets a little more stall than a stock car..They have all this info on PI web site.

Get the cooler and also a Trans go shift kit 3-washer setup as well and you'll be fine. You do not need to have your computer reprogrammed for a mild stall converter. My car drove just fine before my new engine combo without reprogramming the computer, on LS1's it's a must.

The PI's Vigilante will give you a 2 year warranty, and a free stall change. Before installing the Trans-Go Performance Shift kit, there are a few "modifications" that can be done to the kit that help tremendously. This way you can have smooth part throttle shifts, and firm WOT shifts, without the part throttle bang shifts, with these modifications. These "changes" have proven to work out very well. "Do not" add three washers to the accumulator assembly, even on my 10 second transmissions, I might add one. Having rough shifts does nothing for the life of the unit and can be detrimental.
