tuning in 700r4 shift patterns?

my buddy has a pro built tranny in his 1987 iroc. he runs a vig 3200 stall. we are having some very difficult problems when it comes to shifting. he ordered a b&m recalibration kit that has new weights and springs. this has not seemed to help us. we are looking for a shift point right around 6000 rpms for his built motor. if we get it dialed in to shift right from first to second, for example, it maybe off by 1500 or 2000 rpms on the 2nd to 3rd shift. we have tried multiple combination with nothing that is even close yet. we have also noticed that they told us that the springs are for fine tuning. well, we have tried one spring lighter or one spring firmer than what we have in it numerous times. this one slight spring change has shown to change the shifts at full throttle 1500 or 2000 rpms as well. does anyone have any suggestions? maybe we just need to take it to a tranny shop?
