Trouble shifting into reverse

We have a 1996 Camaro with an automatic transmission. We bought it about 6 weeks ago. Transmission was working fine, then one day it wouldn't shift into park, when the gear shifter was all the way forward, instead of being in park it would be in neutral. Then a couple of days later when the shifter was all the way forward it was in reverse. Now when it is all the way forward it won't even reach reverse. There seems to be a progression where moving the gear shift all the way forward means less as time goes on.

Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

Re: Trouble shifting into reverse

Sounds like the bracket on the transmission is loose. Jack up the car and take a look.

You can find some pictures of what you will be looking at in my cable adjusting guide.

Re: Trouble shifting into reverse

Thank you very much. I was so stressed that it was the whole transmission. Taking it in tomorrow.
