Transmission removal troubles

I removed the 6 bolts holding the bellhousing to the block, began to pry the tranny off, but it only came an inch or so. I removed the clutch thing too. Does it have to be in/out of gear or did I miss a couple bolts? Need help ASAP. Thanks in advance.

Did you take the 3 converter bolts out?
It sits on a pin once they are all removed so you might need to pry more

Since you mentioned clutch, I'll assume it's a manual. Did you take the little plastic cover off the bottom? It covers up the flywheel and keeps dust out. We had that problem @ the shop last week.

You may have to rock the tranny back and forth a little to work it off the pins that are in the back of the block.

I assume you did take out the driveshaft, I'm pretty sure you did, but just making sure, lol.

Yea the driveshaft is out. It is about 1 in from the block so its already off the pins. Just doesnt want to come out much further. We pryed it some more and everything, maybe its just not lined up with the motor right? I would assume it would just slip out and not require this much aggrivation!

Did you remove the clutch fork? That will definately hold it in place. Also, clearance is not very good in these cars so yoru trans may be bumping up against something while youre trying to pry it out. I always have to wiggle it bit by bitto get it out.

Yea clutch fork has been out the entire time. Sounds like I might just have to muscle it out.

Try playing with the clearance by jacking it up, pulling it back, and wiggling it. Best of luck with it.

If you're trying to take out the bellhousing and trans at the same time the bellhousing may hit against the body. Thats what mine was doing, so I had to pull the tranny off the bellhousing.

I've done it on my car, and never removed the trans from the bellhousing. I didnt remove the fork, either... I just slid it down off its pivot ball. My guess is that it is just being stubborn. Yank on it harder.

Finally got this piece of junk off..... what a pain. But I guess thats what you get the first time you do it. Josh, you realy just need to take your time and pry then jiggle, pry then jiggle. Its a PITA but thats what happens.
