transmission problems

last night i went to the island that is about 1 and a half hours of driving. on mi way back i noticed that the tramsmission was slipping a lot so i stoped at a walmart and cheked the fluid the car needed some so i bought some and putit in. the transmission worked for a moment, but as i was driving it would start slipping and i had to pull over a couple of times. so i ended up at my grandmothers house and left the car there. so has any of you had a problem like this? by the way its a 95 camaro with a 3.4L v6. what kind of transmission does the car have, and what are the stock gears of the car.

Most likely the filter is becoming clogged with debris from a likely trans failure occurring, When you turned the car off the fluid drained back through the filter temporarily clearing it which is why it drove ok for a short time,
You can change the filter and perhaps buy some time but most likely you will be needed a trans soon, The trans is a 4l60e however its unique in the V6 cars with a smaller bell and different input shaft and converter type.
