Transmission Issues
Transmission Issues
Hi guys. I have recently did a heads and cam swap on my 02 z28, myself. After the install and tune, the tranny is acting weird. I had the tranny beefed up a year and a half ago. I personally installed the Yank ss3600 and TCI flexplate myself after the tranny had work done to it. It ran fine, sometimes it would stall if you went in reverse after starting it. After the heads and cam swap it seems that between gears, the tranny doesn't kick anymore, it makes more like a grinding sound between 1st and 2nd, don't recall 3rd doing it. Also it wont go into overdrive anymore. I replaced the fluids and filter, same problem. The tranny seems to shift better when you do it manually. Its full on fluid and has a tranny cooler, mounted away from radiator of course. Anyone know whats going on? Is that the way is just going to be? The car put down 415rwhp and 380rwtq.
Also
Does anyone think it could be the lockup Solenoid. I noticed when the car is on the highway it goes in and out of overdrive...like bogging kinda...rpms raise the lower deeply.... Im trying to bang around whats going on... Any signs, physically of a bad one?
Hvae you had the car tuned since this swap.
The MAF and TPS affect line presure and can cause trans issues if out of calibration.
The PCM may also see the cam as and engine missfire and cause the irratic lockup the tables for this must be ajusted too.

tv cable a possible cause?
While I was reassembling the throttle cables..I believe the cable with the black plastic block, the plastic tab that locked it to the throttle lever broke. Its on there but really loose..is that the tv cable and if it is, that the problem possibly?

hmmm
yeah we are talking a 02 camaro. I thought that cable on the side of the throttle that clipped on was may be the tv cable... My first thought that it was the cruise control cable...The car is tuned. It runs well. JUst having transmission issues. The shifts arent "firm". Overdrive does not kick in anymore. My buddy and I drained the tranny and replaced the fluid, also changed the filter. The liquid looked fine. red...Ill bring up the things youve told me earlier to the tuner.... What about the linkage on the actual tranny? maybe i bumped something installing the new exhaust.. Like I said, when I manually shift, its "better" then the computer taking over. What about the stall? Could that be bad? what are the signs? After the torque converter install, I noticed the car sometime sstalled when backing out of the driveway after a cold start.... Could the tuner change the aspects of the torque converter? if its not a lockup? idk whats going on... tranny was from being fine before my additions to acting totally different.

If it makes a "grinding" sound, it's most likely an internal problem.
Just out of curiousity, why did you mount your cooler away from the radiator? The best place for it is directly infront of it. This way it uses your fans to cool, when you're sitting still.
When you did the service, was there alot of metal in the pan?

don't think its grinding.
After a day at the shop getting a cold tune (part of my tune) the owner says that it could possibly be a solnoid or syncro...not sure which... Has to be something with the valve body... He says that the car wants to go into overdrive but won't he says that with the computer he sees the tranny "energizing".. On monday or tuesday im going to have im do a pressure check to see whats going on..
