When I was putting the headers on we discovered a HUGE gash in the bellhousing of my tranny. The crack is around the WHOLE transmission next to the torque converter. When we had to jack up the passenger side of the engine for the header installation, the first jack we did we heard CRACK, we looked at the tranny and it cracked in two. I'm bringing it to a transmission shop Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Do you guys suggest I get a new transmission or try to have it welded?

I was looking at the Level 4 transmission from FLP. Me and my dad found a little bolt that was denting the hell out of my little scatter shield that protects the torque converter and the flywheel. Any opinions/suggestions?

 

The pics below are what happened to my TH400 going 120 MPH near the end of the quarter. I know your pain. I would say that your bell housing was cracked before you jacked up the engine and I would just plan on buying another tranny. The FLP trannys seems to hold up pretty good, they're kinda pricey though in my opinion.

It was cracked all the way but not completely through. There was a 3 inch hole in my bellhousing and it was cracked all the way, and when we jacked up the motor, that is when it split in 2.

I want a new tranny. I can't imagine what it would be like for you having it go out on the 1/4.

I seriously doubt that a little bolt the size of my pinky nail did all that damage. I'm thinking it may have been caused by when my tranny mount broke hitting the floorboard so many times.
