transmission

is it possible to put a manual transmission from a 1979 z28 camaro into a 1996z28 camaro

you'll need to rig up a cable clutch system. I havnt ever head of anyone doing that.

would the transmission definately fit the 96?

Anything is possible if you have enough money and/or enough fabrication skills.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to do that?

i dont know..we have the 79 camaro torn apart just wasting away..and if i can put some of it to use i would like to..plus id much rather have a manual than a automatic

Why not just swap in a T56 then? I understand that you have these parts just sitting around but if you are going to do something like this then you might aswell do it right and with a transmission that was already meant for the car.

im 16 and dont have a lot of money my dads been a mechanic all his life and we were lookin for a project for the winter

Changing a transmission is hardly a winters worth of work. Maybe you should restore the 79?

I'd recommend selling parts from the '79 and buying a T56 with the proceeds.

It could take a whole winter if they had to rig up a clutch cable and shift linkage, fabricate a bellhousing, figure out how to make the speedometer work without an electronic speed sensor on the transmission (or retrofit a speed sensor on it), etc.

any idea how much a T56 transmission would run? and how much more money would have to be spent putting a clutch pedal in and everything else involved?
