Which one can handle more power and has less problems or maintenance and good for street racing?

Well.... In a car with a factory transmission the m6 is Way Way Way Better than a a4.....But!! When talking 7,8,9 sec cars the a2 or a3 transmissions are less problematic.

I don't know how you justify that first statement.

I would say that any serious ¼ mile racer is going to be using an automatic. You just can't beat the consistency.

A well stalled automatic will rape an m6 out the hole.

The difference from the factory is mainly in gearing. An auto will spin the tires off of the line, so that rules out the launching ability of a manual. autos shift faster. Both from the factory will run the same, the auto being more consistent.

I agree 100%, I have yet to race a manual that has beaten me on the holeshot, not to say i have been beaten by a manual. I have driven both and for street/strip I would take the A4.

It really depends on your application and your preference.

As far as stock transmissions go, the manuals consistently get lower 0-60 times when tested by Car and Driver, Road test, etc. And with a stock stall, every gear change = bigger drop in rpms, which has cost me races even against manual mustang gts (when i was stock, and only in the area of 65 to 95mph).

Some people like manuals some like autos. I like autos and the way they take off with a high stall(oh man the torque multiplication is AWESOME!)

Just get a manual. Theres nothing like it when you do a high rpm clutch drop on sticky tires and you feel the rear end buckle before the gear expodes.

torque multiplication is best off the line and wears off at higher rpms. The stall helps in first gear, and thats the only gear where the advantage is. The manual remains in the powerband at every shift (more gears) and has the least drivetrain loss. It takes a lot of practice to get the shifting right though.

A4 all the way - much easier to drive quickly, much easier to drive consistently. Alot easier on our stock rear-ends too.

Just for the record when I manually shift my 700r4 it is the optimum shift point to keep me in my powerband. I don't shift out of first then I am suddently not in my powerband.

He's asking which is stronger, not which is better. My 4l60e decided to start slipping on me at 74K miles. The T-56 is definatly a stronger tranny. And look in the sig for 1/4 mile times. The weather was better with the auto too. And I know I can hit a low 12 if i launch it decently, I was just babing it off the line that night (too scared to break the 10 bolt.)

Well a 700r4 automatic is a real reliable trans if upgraded , shift kit and all. The shift kit needs to be a transgo not b&M though. The 4L60e tranny and the 700r4 are basically the same tranny and both can be upgraded. The difference is one's computer controlled the other is not.

Both trannys will eventually break. The auto is much cheaper to replace and build up than the manual though. It's like what, 1200 for a fully built 4L60e? The 4L60E can be built to handle as much power as you want it to. You won't have to worry about clutches either, just a good torque converter. You also won't have to worry about breaking your rear end as often.
