Talking trans-trouble

Dear Oracle , I am having trouble shifting my t-56 at full throttle and at5K+ revs. If I am hard onto the power side of the gear the trans. tends to reject the shift. If I "float" the shift, all's well. This occurs on up and down shifts. I recently changed the fluid to a synthetic type, not much difference. The car has 87K miles and I do not think the trans. has ever been touched .I now throw myself at the temple entrance and await your [TEKE] comments.

Re: trans-trouble

sounds like the synchros are out or going out, have you had any bad gear grinds when shifting or not have the clutch fully disengaged? Those type of things could cause it...

Question Re: trans-trouble

1SlowFormula, Thank you for your response. I suspect the syncro's as well to be the culprit. Now...if I have to replace the 6spd , should I consider an "up grade" if practical? Are there some better than others exchange units? Any info appreciated. Thanks in advance ckid

Re: trans-trouble

i'm still kindda new to the internals of the manual trans....which i am currently researching since i have a nasty grind in mine

but i agree...sounds like the synchros.

maybe give a shout to t56rebuild.com and see what those guys say. i looked and i think a basic performance rebuild is about $1000
