i have a 94 z withe a 4l60E trans, and i was wondering if i changed the gears out for 3.73 if my car would shift properly without computer programming, i am not worried about the speedo being accurate. by the way the car is obd1 if that helps.

 

It will NOT shift properly.

 

With the A4, you can have tranny damage by doing a gear change and not having the PCM programmed to account for it. You'll definitely want the PCM programmed accordingly.

 

Would'nt a hypertech programer do the trick??

 

When I've done the gear swaps from 2.73 --> 3.73 --> 2.73 --> 4.10, I've driven the car for short distances before re-programming the computer with the Hypertech, and the tranny still shifts like normal (the speedo just reads way off!). I believe that under normal driving, the tranny shifts more based on "load"? I never took the car up to WOT without re-programming, for fear that something could go wrong. I *think* that's where the programming is more critical, because the computer controls the shifts based on speed.

The Hypertech is simple to use, but for the same money, I think there may be better programmers out there that you can use to change other variables as well.
