Trans maintenance

I know for a fact that the trans hasn't been touched for the last 40k miles and I have no idea if it was ever touched previous to that. What should I do or more importantly, what SHOULDN'T I do to my trans? Currently there is nothing wrong with it, shifts pretty much like it did when I bought it at 80,000 miles and as far as I know its not slipping on me. However, I rarely go WOT and don't beat on it much. I would like to get this thing to last me for at least another year or more. Then it can take a crap cuz I plan on swapping in a T56, but until then, it needs to last. So any advice is great, thanks!

80,000 miles when initially bought and 124,000 on it currently.

Try changing the fluid & filter. Its about time for service and forget about people telling you to leave it alone.

See, I was thinking about doing that, but I want to hear from people who have actually done that and their trans didnt go out the next day. Or trans experts would work too!
