tranny temp

alright, what is the normal temp for a 4l60E bone stock?

I am buying a tranny cooler, but already have a trans temp gauge, and yesterday it got to 190* or so, and it kind of made me panic, so I will be buying a b&m transmission cooler.
given, i have my temp sensor mounted in the aux. pressure port, so its reading the case and not the tranny oil temp, i will have to change that eventually.

how hard is it to install a tranny cooler?

i have the large b&m cooler with the built in fan and thermo sensor and my trans stays around 140f all the time not going through the radiator cooler, i mounted it up in the right front corner by the horns. mounted horizontal with the fan on top, not much air flow there but this cooler is so large it works great,, i also have braided -6 cooler lines from the case to the cooler, stock trans cooler linefittings removed and special -6 fittings into the case

so, 190 with the stock cooler probably isnt too bad?

im gonna change the sensor so its in the actual tranny lines so its reading the actual coolant instead of just the case temperature, so hopefully it'll be more reliable.

is the cooler u have the 2400 one thats normally around $70?

My transmission fluid would run 200 to 240 on the HOT or OUT line from the transmission to the radiator. I installed the 2200 B&M cooler and it now runs between 180 and 200. To get an accurate fluid reading you must put a sensor in the out going line. This will be the hotter of the two lines. On my car, it is the line with a crimped rubber section that enters the radiator at the lower fitting. If you put the sensor in the line after the radiator or cooler you will not get the hottest reading. ATF will release varnish at 260 degrees. This is when damage begins inside the transmission as the parts are coated. Under normal circumstances your fluid will follow the coolant temperature plus. With the B&M stacked plate cooler, my fluid temps run almost exactly that of my coolant but it takes a little while.

It took me about an hour or so to install. It is a matter of cutting and clamping hoses on the car, radiator and cooler. The B&M kit has long, flat plastic spikes that have to be fished (forced) through the radiator fins and cooler. There is a flat round head on one end and zip tie fashion serrations on the other. Another flat locking piece slips on to the serrated end of the spiked fastener to hold the cooler in place. With the backward canted radiator and so little room for movement, I just used two of the four supplied fasteners. The cooler isn't going anywhere and it doesn't move, slide or jiggle on the face of the radiator. You can also install the cooler anywhere it will fit as it has a large surrounding flange with holes to allow it to be bolted in place.

Here's a link to one installed on a Tahoe : http://www.keystonekrawlers.com/Mods...ion_cooler.htm

I have a little off topic question.. with say a 24,000 gvw cooler what is the usual difference between the hot an cool line as far as temp?
