tranny problems

I have a 1993 camaro Z28 with a Automatic trans. I bought it about 2 months ago. and I have been gradually changing all fluids out on it and the trans fluid was the only thing i had left. i was on my way to autozone to get the fluid and filter kit when i got to a stop sign and went to take off again and it would not shift out of 1st gear. the only way i got it to shift was to put it in nuetral and red line it then drop it back into OD ok first thought was that it it was my filter was stopped up well i got it back home and changed everything out and now it will halfway shift sometimes at a very high rpm and if you let off the gas and get back on it it will hit 3000 to 3500 rpms before it seems thatit finally catches to go, then when i stop it wont drop back into first it will only go into 2nd or so i believe, and it usually wont go into Overdrive while riding, is the trans shot or what ? i am a mechanic and i am completely all out of ideas of what it could be. was told it may be the trans shift selonoid !!! any ideas ?

The 93 does not use shift solenoids to shift. First I would check the TV cable at the throttle body that it is hooked up. However from the sounds of it you have a trans failure in process.

ok then woud a master rebuild kit fix it ? if not then what all exactly would it take to convert it over to either a 5 or 6 sp tranny ? i have had trouble with the 700r4's before but nothing like this. thats why im stumped on it. any and all help would be appreciated on getting this thing fixed the cheapest but best way possible right now. running on limited funds.
